On Thursday, August 16, WALKSacramento staff and volunteers, took part in a very successful Advocacy Day to close out an even more successful national Safe Routes to School conference here in Sacramento.  The Advocacy Day was organized by WALKSacramento, the non-profit California Safe Routes Partnership and the statewide transportation advocacy group TransForm, organized.  The Advocacy Day event brought on-the-ground Safe Routes to School experience to legislators’ offices as the members considered how to integrate the innovative and successful Safe Routes to School into a statewide Active Transportation Program (ATP).  It worked.  The proposed draft ATP provides strong protection and support for Safe Routes to School.  The Legislature must enact legislation to implement the ATP by August 31, 2013.For more on the Safe Routes Advocacy Day, read here:
