Happy Holidays from WALKSacramento!!

Walkers,

2010 has been a busy year for WALKSacramento.

We are well into our Safe Routes to School Five E’s project around Sacramento County, and continue to review land use plans and development projects.  We are beginning a three year effort to build a Safe Routes to School Master Plan for Citrus Heights and organize walk assessments and community engagement in underserved communities within the Healthy Land Use partnership project.

Coming out of our Complete Streets campaign is a new initiative, “Safe Routes for All”.  We are asking SACOG to adopt the most pedestrian and bicycle-friendly scenario for its metropolitan transportation plan (MTP), and model just what a complete system for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the region would look like, and the benefits it would provide. As we have no dedicated funding for Complete Streets, we need your support to keep up the campaign.  It makes a difference.  In October, generous individual donations provided promotional materials to distribute at MTP community workshops.  These materials helped the most walk- and bike-friendly scenario proposed by SACOG garner the most votes at 7 of 9 public MTP workshops. But there is still much work to do and we need your help.

Your generous contribution to WALKSacramento will ensure that we can continue our work on Complete Streets, Safe Routes for All, and building communities of walkers throughout the Sacramento region.  Though WALKSacramento has a strong record of securing grants, our private memberships and contributions allow us to maintain our strong independent voice advocating for safer places to walk and walkable communities.
