Let’s Walk and Video
Students, when asked, can tell you a lot about the challenges they face walking or bicycling to school or just around the neighborhood. Fast cars, loud animals, and missing sidewalks or walking places. Student-directed walk assessments, documented on video, can do a lot to build the case and build community support for improvements to the walking and bicycling space.
WALKSacramento, and others, are using video documentaries for students to tell their stories. This is after all, the video generation. They are comfortable in front of, behind and besides the video camera. And they have used it to tell their stories:

Will Pollock is a media lab instructor at Pasteur MS who organized, with Alice Mercer, the walk audit video at Pasteur as part of the Sacramento Safe Routes 5 E’s project.
