Safe Routes to School


Sacramento City Unified School District is the 11th largest school district in the state of California with 81 schools, located in the City of Sacramento, Sacramento County, and the City of Rancho Cordova.

Our work with SCUSD schools has varied widely over the years from full immersive SRTS 6Es programs to working with the County on long term improvements.

Fern Bacon Middle School

Fern Bacon Middle School launched Safe Routes to School programming during the 2016/2017 school year out of community concern for student safety.  The program was funded by Supervisor Patrick Kennedy and the County of Sacramento. Throughout the program, WALKSacramento engaged community members through walk audits, parent meetings, and student education and ecnouragement events to promote walking and biking.

Pacific Elementary School

Pacific Elementary School launched Safe Routes to School programming during the 2016/2017 school year out of community concern for student safety.  Throughout the program, WALKSacramento engaged community members through walk audits, parent meetings, and student education and ecnouragement events to promote walking and biking. Students continue to participate in a regular walking school bus programs.

Nicholas Elementary School launched Safe Routes to School programming during the 2018/2019 school year out of community concern for student safety.  Since launch, WALKSacramento has engaged community parnters, neighbors, and students in safety education, walking school bus programs, and more!

Oak Ridge Elementary School launched Safe Routes to School programming during the 2018/2019 school year out of community concern for student safety. Oak Ridge Staff has since prioritized the safety of student travel through regular walk to school days, community awareness, and more.

Will C. Wood Middle School

Will C. Wood Middle School lies on the corner of Lemon Hill Ave and 65th St Expressway. With two highly trafficked streets and a large population of students walking, biking, and taking transit safety education and encouragement was essential. In spring 2019, students are collaborating on safety campaigns, video voices, and a Bike to School Day event.
