WALKSacramento’s Design & Development Review Committee meets monthly to provide a forum for discussing land use development projects with developers and planners and providing suggestions for making the projects more walkable and bikable. This review supports WALKSacramento’s efforts in providing written comments and testimony on these projects as they move forward.
Over the last five years, WALKSacramento has conducted over 150 reviews of Sacramento area development projects. These recommendations for both policy and physical improvements are communicated to city planners, architects and developers in early stages and at later stages to the City Planning Commission. In some cases, the projects had more than one review as a result of project changes in response to earlier reviews.
Many of the City and County Planning Commissioners supported the recommendations to improve walkability and bikability. The goal is to provide early and timely review so as to not cause project delay. The approach is critical, but positive. Developers and planning staff are supportive of working with WALKSacramentio, realizing that the proposed changes would make the projects better and thus more marketable.
